The Metaphor - or What Airports Have to Do with Racism

Imagine a moving sidewalk. Like at an airport – lots of people on it, mostly ignoring each other and everyone else, lots of people off it. Some people on the moving sidewalk are rushing and knocking over old ladies' bags with an oversized carry-on. A young family is just standing there, taking a break, and the occasional kid is running the opposite direction just because they can.

Convos of Color is a blog about race.

Convos is dedicated to giving Notre Dame students a forum in which to generate productive conversation about race, identity, class, power, and privilege.

Posts address issues that relate both to the Notre Dame campus community and to the nation at large. Through Convos, we hope to engage a wider audience in the effort to affect social change and racial equity in America.

Convos was started in the Spring of 2010 as a supplement to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Series for the Study of Race and is managed by Multicultural Student Programs and Services at the University of Notre Dame.
